The process of teaching literacy promotes reading and writing development. There are various methods and theories about how to implement accurate strategies in this process, some approaches are more formal. In their process they encourage the understanding of the letters, following the syllables, and then going through the words and finally through the phrases. Other methods, on the contrary, focus on capturing the completeness of the graphic stimulus (word), without dwelling on the details of syllabic breaks, presenting complete words with their respective meanings from the beginning.
Each teacher chooses the type of methodology which suits students’ needs, in order that each one is capable of acquiring literacy skills, which implies 2 complex activities.
Here are three methods and their reviews, so that each instructor knows for sure the scope and implications of each literacy teaching strategy:
Matte method: It is on the one hand phonetic since it teaches the sound of the letters, without taking into account the names of these. On the other hand, it is also analytical, because words are broken down and analyzed, making sense of each one. One of the most significant points about the Matte Method is that learning times are shortened and children can create meaningful words and phrases at the same time in a period of three months and end up reading fluently in five. After one school year, 78% of students have a very fast reading level.
Doman Method: It is designed for the tutor to practice with their baby and initially focuses on learning to read. It includes playful dynamics in the learning process in order not to demotivate the child. The kid is shown a series of five cards with words, written in large letters and corresponding to the same category (for example, parts of the human body, colors, animals …), quickly, three times a day. The interesting thing about this method is that it is designed to be applied from the age of three.
VaCaChaDaFa method: This method aims for the student to learn to read in 20 days following the guidelines of the templates that are presented in the material to be downloaded. Each child learns at their own pace and with different processes. It is based mainly on the syllabic composition of words and the relationship between the words and the accompanying images.
